It is hard to believe that it was a year ago that I was in Branson, Missouri for the Cal Ripken Major/70 World Series. It was one of the best experiences that I have had in my almost 48 years.
I am seeing posts from the umpires that I met last year and am friends with on Facebook. It brings back fond memories of an excellent 10 days in Missouri, it also makes me miss umpiring for the first time this year.
I hope that the World Series goes without any hitches, much like it did last year. Have a great time umpiring guys. Another of the guys that I met in Branson did not return there, he’s in Alabama umpiring the 10u World Series, I hope he has a great time as well.
I won’t say I’ve retired from umpiring, I am on a hiatus for now. I likely could find some umpiring down here, I am not sure. Not sure I really want to at the moment either. At some point, if I return to Calgary, I will more than likely return to umpiring, although, I sort of doubt I will return to Calgary any time soon. Guess time will tell.
I’ve been in the new place for a month now. This has been one of the laziest moves I’ve ever done, I am not completely setup as yet. I know, pretty bad. My plans for this long weekend (it is Heritage Day on Monday in Alberta, Civic Holiday in many other places in Canada) are to get the house all set up. Really, I only have to organize stuff and set up two beds. In theory, that won’t take a long time… Wish me some luck.
Otherwise, this weekend is supposed to be some great weather, so I think the dogs and I will do some hiking, maybe take a trip to the lake so they can do some swimming. Real summer here is short, so we need to take advantage of it.
Enjoy your weekend, or long weekend, wherever you are.
